Elena Daskalova (WTN: 16.3) was visiting family in Bulgaria when she received a direct message on Instagram from Texas Tech associate head coach Dani Nasser. The Red Raiders were interested in learning more about Daskalova as a recruit.

Daskalova ran down the stairs to share the news with her parents.

Since her freshman year of high school, Daskalova knew she wanted to go to college somewhere in Texas. The Kansas native was thrilled when Texas Tech gave her the chance with a prominent Division I program.

“I visited and fell in love with the school,” the five-star senior said. “The coaches – Adam (Herendeen) and Dani – are super nice and the environment is perfect for me.”

Daskalova plans to major in sports medicine with a career goal of becoming a physical therapist.

“It was a big sense of relief to make my decision and now I am just working towards training and playing good for the team and for my college coaches instead of just for myself and parents,” Daskalova said. “I feel like I am training for a different goal now, which I enjoy.”
