Steinberg Ready To Elevate Colorado's Program
Share:

Danielle Steinberg had only been on the job a few hours and she was already envisioning team-building activities suited to her new surroundings.

Having worked previously in Arizona, Louisiana and Kansas, Steinberg is taking a step up in altitude at the base of the Rocky Mountains.

Steinberg was named the women’s head coach at the University of Colorado on Tuesday. She arrives at CU after spending the last four seasons at Kansas State.

“I will tell you what, we are going to do a lot of hiking in Boulder,” Steinberg said. “There are going to be a lot of fun team-bonding experiences we can have here. I am excited for that.”

Steinberg is returning to her conference roots by coaching the Pac-12. Playing primarily at No. 1 singles, the Tel Aviv, Israel native was a three-time all-conference selection and team captain at the University of Arizona. In 2009, Steinberg was named the conference’s Spring Scholar Athlete of the Year and received the ITA Arthur Ashe Award for Sportsmanship and Leadership.

“I always wanted to come back to the Pac-12 because I believe it’s the best conference for tennis and the coaches there are on a different level,” Steinberg said. “Every coach has a short list of places you want to coach or end your career and Colorado was always on mine. Colorado is a program that has so much potential. I don’t think it has even come close to scratching the surface of the potential that can happen.”
