It is a very exciting time for the senior class, especially when your child has committed to a college to play tennis. Junior tennis players may wonder if it is now time to relax for the next few months since you have achieved your goal of being accepted to play college tennis. I would say definitely not.
Todd Widom
The college coach who recruited your child expects them to be ready physically, mentally, tactically, and technically when they walk through the door. The college coaches are not only looking for the best player, but they are also looking for student-athletes with the best mentality that will help their team. That is right; this is not junior tennis anymore. You are now entering the team atmosphere whether your child likes it or not and there is no “I” in team. I am fortunate to have personal relationships with many of the top college coaches in the United States, and many of them have voiced that they would rather have a player a little bit lower level of tennis skills but with the proper mentality than have a player who is better with a poor mentality. The next few months of your child’s junior tennis career is a time to improve the different aspects of their game, brain and body so they are ready to be a force on their college team.
