It can be hard to lure some recruits out of California, but Tulane men’s coach Mark Booras sensed Henry Lovett was looking for a new experience.
The five-star senior from Los Angeles seemed to embrace the idea of branching out and learning more about a different culture.

Since the program was revived a decade ago after a four-year hiatus following Hurricane Katrina, Booras has tried to build Tulane with recruits like Lovett.
“I was searching for guys who were pioneers because we restarted from nothing and we needed guys who were go-getters,” Booras said. “Tulane is a very unique school, but it’s not for everybody. It’s different from bigger places. But I could tell Henry would fit in great with us because his energy let me know he wanted to do something unique.”
Lovett’s final decision came down to Tulane and Wisconsin, where his father played tennis. He opted for New Orleans, and signed with Tulane last fall.
"I feel like Tulane had an amazing tennis program and I really loved the coaches. I have a lot of faith in them,” Lovett said. “I think Tulane is the most perfect mix of all the elements I could ask for - the size, the weather, the academics. I think it's a great place for me to grow as a tennis player and a person."
