They didn’t know who she was, but they kept approaching her anyway. Students, professors, administrators - all random strangers at Pomona College asking Samantha Moore-Thomson how her day was going and offering to help in any way.

“That stood out to me. That was different from other schools,” Moore-Thomson said. “They had no idea I was on an official, but the professors and the students were all so friendly.”
Moore-Thomson was already impressed with Pomona-Pitzer’s strong tennis program and academic reputation. The kindness factor helped put the Division III school in Southern California over the top. The four-star senior from Denver, Colorado committed to the Sagehens in July.
Pomona College is a member of the Claremont University Consortium, an association of five undergraduate liberal arts colleges and two graduate institutions. Undergraduate students can take classes, eat in the dining halls and participate in activities on Pomona’s sister campuses: Claremont McKenna College, Harvey Mudd College, Pitzer College and Scripps College.
“The liberal arts education is something I was looking for in a school and the consortium they have is unlike that of any other,” Moore-Thomson said. “I feel like Pomona-Pitzer had the small college feel, but it was on so much of a larger campus with the five other schools.”
