Hiryur Helps Honor Coach with Commitment to Dayton
Share:

Alan Aure believed in Ronit Hiryur and always wanted the best for him.

Aure was Hiryur’s first tennis coach at the Queen City Racquet Club in Cincinnati, Ohio. He saw Hiryur’s potential and encouraged him to stick with the sport. He gave Hiryur his first real rackets - two Wilson Steams - and a tennis bag.

Aure battled cancer twice and went into remission. But Aure passed away on September 5th at age 42, leaving behind a wife and two young children.

A few days before Aure died, Hiryur committed to Dayton. The five-star senior from West Chester, Ohio, couldn’t wait to share the news with Aure.

“He congratulated me and we had a really good conversation about that,” Hiryur said. “He was the one talking to me about the college process, and whenever I would take a visit I would always go back to him and talk to him and see what his opinion was. It’s very sad, but I am at least glad he got to see my junior career come full circle.”

Dayton wasn’t on Hiryur’s original list of schools when he started the recruiting process despite being less than two hours away from his home. He was considering Dartmouth, Indiana, Michigan State, Northwestern, Middlebury and William & Mary.

But Dayton coach Ryan Meyer sent Hiryur an email two months ago asking if he had any interest in the program.

“I actually didn’t even realize that Dayton was a good school for both tennis and academics, but I had a friend I played with on my high school team who went to Dayton and he told me to come take a visit,” Hiryur said. “I went and checked it out and loved the school so much. Everybody seemed so friendly and welcoming.”
