Having grown up around the Washington D.C. area, Mya Spencer viewed her college decision as a chance to spread her wings a bit.

She didn’t know much about Saint Louis University when she first started talking with the coaches. But after visiting the campus in February, the four-star senior from Hillcrest Heights, Maryland was ready to sign the following week.

"I wanted to go a little bit further away to experience a different culture and new people. I wanted some new scenery,” Spencer said. “I didn’t want to go somewhere too suburban, so the city of St. Louis felt more like home you could say. It’s just a little different of a culture.”

Spencer felt at ease with Saint Louis head coach Justin Stuckey from the start of the recruiting process.

"Our first phone call we started making jokes, so I thought it was really cool,” she said. “Most phone calls when you talk to coaches are really formal. This felt more friendly and felt more open about things you could say."
