From the clay courts of France and Turkey to hard courts in Tunisia, Portugal, California, Georgia and Florida, October provided the junior stars and former collegians below with opportunities to return to something like a regular schedule. They took advantage with titles big and small.
Dominic Stricker
The 18-year-old lefthander swept the titles last month at the French Open Junior Championships, claiming the first all-Swiss grand slam boys final with a 6-2, 6-4 decision over No. 8 seed Leandro Riedi. Stricker, the No. 7 seed in singles, lost only one set in his six victories. In the doubles final, 2019 Roland Garros finalists Stricker and partner Flavio Cobolli of Italy, seeded No. 3, went one step further this year, defeating No. 8 seeds Bruno Oliveira and Natan Rodrigues of Brazil 6-2, 6-4.
Elsa Jacquemot
The 17-year-old from France gave her country its first girls champion at Roland Garros since Kristina Mlandenovic in 2009, but not without providing some drama first. Jacquemot, the No. 3 seed, trailed unseeded Alina Charaeva of Russia 6-4, 4-2, before she won eight straight games on her way to a 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 victory. With the title, Jacquemot moved to No. 1 in the ITF World Junior rankings.
