Despite being a high-level player, Azariah Rusher had to be very proactive with his college recruitment process. Rusher wasn’t playing many big national events and was training in other countries to improve his game.
“I wasn’t in the spotlight much. I was doing my own thing in an unconventional way,” Rusher said. “I definitely had to do a lot of reaching out and research myself rather than some of the other kids who college coaches would see at every tournament.”

Rusher was very thorough in his approach. The blue chip senior wanted to ensure he found a school that fit all his needs. He talked to many coaches, and made visits to Florida State, Baylor, TCU, South Carolina and Wake Forest.
Rusher signed with Florida State when the signing period opened in November. He is the first blue chip to sign with the Seminoles since 2017.
“It’s funny because I visited four schools and just loved every single one. But there was a piece missing at every single one,” Rusher said. “But when I visited Florida State and met both the coaches it all kind of clicked with me.”
