Rocky McKenzie was a bit worried location would matter when he began his recruiting process. The Sioux Falls, South Dakota native didn’t know if coaches would overlook him because of where he lived.

“The culture of some other states and their ability to produce great players is proven,” McKenzie said. “Whereas taking on someone from South Dakota might appear as more of a risk.”
The four-star senior’s dream was to play for Creighton University. McKenzie had some friends who went to school there and he loves the Omaha, Nebraska area. After Creighton head coach Gerhard Posch was hired last summer, McKenzie reached out to him expressing his interest.
He arranged a visit last fall, and Posch began attending his tournament matches. The Bluejays made McKenzie a scholarship offer this spring and he committed right away.
“All of my time and effort centered around being able to play for them,” McKenzie said. “It’s close to home, it’s a great school and I really love the culture they have set up there.”
