Kockinis Beats the Heat, Opponents for Girls 14s Gold

Down a set in the quarterfinals and tied at 5-all in the second, Armira Kockinis didn't feel too good.
"I took a medical timeout because I thought I was going to pass out," she said. "I was overheating and needed to take a minute, put ice on my neck and relax."

That she did, and Kockinis eventually found her way to the singles title at the USTA Girls 14 National Championships on Rome Tennis Center's hard courts in Georgia.
Kockinis, from La Habra Heights in California's Los Angeles County, won seven matches, climaxing with a 6-2, 6-2 triumph over Vibha Gogineni of Mason, Ohio. Both are rising freshmen and were among the tournament's 16 players co-seeded No. 17.
