Shane Vinsant wanted to have his college decision made a few months ago.
But the blue chip recruit from Texas knew it was something he couldn't take lightly. He knew how important it was for his future.
So if took a few more weeks, Vinsant knew it was warranted.
"It was really tough to find time to make visits, and I felt like there were quite a few good schools out there," Vinsant said. "The schools I was looking at were all good choices, and I wanted to make sure I found out enough about all of them. But it kind of weighs on you over time."
Vinsant has been feeling a little lighter these days since deciding Texas A&M was the best choice for him.
Vinsant chose to become an Aggie over Texas Christian University, Michigan and Texas.
"It really came down to the school I felt could help me play pro tennis the best," he said. "That is what I want to do. I want to play pro tennis, and I just felt like the coaches there are really good and they have professional experience themselves. I feel like it is definitely the right fit for me."
Texas A&M will be moving from the Big 12 Conference to the Southeastern Conference next season. The conference switch wasn't a major factor in Vinsant's decision, but he does find it appealing.
"It is definitely a plus because the schedule is going to be really tough and you are going to get good matches," Vinsant said. "I mean the Big 12 is tough too, but I think seven of the top 10 schools are SEC right now in tennis."
Playing tennis was somewhat of an obvious athletic option for Vinsant.
His father is a tennis coach, and Vinsant was already on the court playing by age 3.
"I instantly loved the sport, and I never stopped from there," he said. "I played other sports, but it was never a question of what I wanted to do because I always loved tennis the best. I was always around the courts early on."
