Countdown: Alexandra Landert Picks Seton Hall
Share:

Alexandra Landert's journey began in 1993 when the future five-star tennis recruit was born in Zurich, Switzerland.

Her dad, a native of Zurich, and her mom, an American, lived in Switzerland until Alex was 16. The family then moved to Naples, Fla., so Alex could hone her tennis skills the year round. The next stop for Alex will be South Orange, N.J., when she becomes a member of the Seton Hall Pirates women's tennis team in the fall.

"I chose Seton Hall because Coach (Greg) Wyzykowski is a great coach," said Alex, who is ranked No. 69 on national recruiting lists, and 10th in the tennis-rich state of Florida. "Many coaches just want the team to win, but I have the impression they want to make sure the team works hard together every day. The coaches and team are all motivated to accomplish great things this year and next."

Coach Wyzykowski is in his fifth season at the Big East Conference school. According to the Seton Hall Web site, 70 percent of Coach Wyzkowski's players have improved their results from their freshman season to their senior years.

"Alex is pleasant, honest, responsible, and seeks success," Coach Wyzykowski said about his soon-to-be player. "Our team has become tighter as a family unit. Alex's personality will blend well with her new teammates. We have confidence she will also be a strong player at the top of our lineup."

Alex, who signed the letter of intent with Seton Hall last November, was ranked in the top 10 in Switzerland in her age group. She won several national events and advanced to the quarterfinals of the Swiss National Championships. Last July, Alex advanced to the second round of the USTA Girls 18 National Clay Courts at Memphis and won three consolation rounds.
