Last spring, the USTA had proposed revolutionary changes to USTA junior competition, emphasizing local and sectional play and reducing opportunities for competing nationally. Many of these changes were scheduled to go into effect in January 2013. You can click here for an overview of the proposed changes.
These junior competition changes were met with some concern from the tennis community, and the USTA decided to postpone such changes until at least January 2014. The USTA also decided to conduct a series of "Town Hall Listening Meetings" where industry representatives, parents, coaches, players, tournament directors, USTA representatives, and other interested parties would discuss and refine the proposed changes to the Junior Competition Schedule.
There are now a number of dates on the calendar for these listening meetings. Take a look at the schedule below for Winter 2012-13 and, if you are interested, find one that is convenient and appropriate for you to attend. Note that the schedule is subject to change - and that webinars are planned for January and February for those unable to attend a meeting.
The first two meetings have already occurred. The Parenting Aces Blog has great notes from both the Nov. 17 and Nov. 24 sessions.
Note also that the USTA has set up an email address - [email protected] - for people to use to submit feedback.
