This Week - The RPI
by Dallas Oliver, 22 August 2005
Although the Class Rankings get all the attention, TennisRecruiting.net provides a second set of weekly rankings: the RPI. Come by TennisRecruiting.net every Thursday and Friday to check out the latest RPI rankings for boys and girls, respectively.
About the RPI
The most popular ranking system in college sports is the Ratings Percentage Index (RPI). The RPI is used by the NCAA Selection Committee for choosing teams for the NCAA Tournament in College Basketball, and RPI calculations are used in other college sports like football, lacrosse, baseball, and softball.
The RPI rankings use the widely-accepted RPI formula, and these rankings are updated weekly - exclusively at TennisRecruiting.net.
Like the Class Rankings, the RPI rankings are broken down by high school graduation year rather than age or ability level. When you are considered for college scholarships, coaches compare you with other players in your graduating class - and college coaches want a ranking list that reflects that comparison.
For more information on the RPI, please view our RPI FAQ.
