Junmoke James thought she may have to put competitive tennis behind her and focus on academics in college.
She wanted to play for a Division I team, but her options seemed non-existent until she received an email from Lehigh head coach Sarah Hendrix.
Hendrix noticed James had looked at the team’s page on TennisRecruiting.net and reached out to gauge her interest. She told James to send her grades, and they eventually scheduled an official visit.
James really liked the school and the players on the team. Lehigh had the strong academic background she was looking for, and she had extended family living in the state of Pennsylvania.
The four-star senior from Marietta, Georgia committed to Lehigh in September, and will be signing her National Letter of Intent next week.
“If I hadn’t been able to go to Lehigh, I was really just thinking about playing club tennis or something and focusing on academics only,” James said. “I didn’t really want to do that. I wanted to play for a team, so I am really happy I got this opportunity at Lehigh.”
