Recruiting Profile: James "Bo" Seal
by
Colette Lewis, 30 August 2007
Sixteen-year-old Bo Seal of Chattanooga, Tenn., is working on his second transition in tennis. The first, at age eleven, saw him leave behind his other sporting interests - basketball, wrestling, baseball - to concentrate on tennis.
"I've been playing since I was seven, but I really didn't get serious until I was 10 or 11," says Seal, whose nickname comes from Jimbo, his grandfather. "When I was about 10, I was actually better at baseball than I was at tennis. But I realized I probably wasn't going to be big enough, so I figured my chances were better at the game of tennis."
Perennially near the top of the Tennis Recruiting Network's rankings for the class of 2009, Seal's decision to zero in on tennis has proven to be a good one. A finalist in both singles and doubles at the Nationals in Kalamazoo earlier this month, he is now looking forward to another opportunity to delve deeper into the sport, when he heads for the famous IMG/Bollettieri Academy in Bradenton, Fla.
