The specialist had relationships with a few of the top Division II tennis coaches and provided Young-Smith more insight about the schools. The more Young-Smith learned, the more he liked the idea.
"I realized I would rather go to a top D2 school than a lower-level D1 and have a chance to compete,” Young-Smith said. “I wanted to go to a school that is going to be one of the best in the nation and be able to play at that high level."
The three-star senior from Los Angeles signed with Lynn University in Boca Raton, Florida after visiting the school, seeing the team practice and getting a chance to try out for the coach.
"I saw the level was very good, and that even for a D2 team I would have to work my way up and that is what I wanted in a school,” he said. “I got a tour around campus with the coach and there was a lot of good technology and it just seemed like a great fit."
