College Commitment
Countdown: Wil Spencer Selects Texas A&M
by
Colette Lewis, 22 October 2007
College Station, Texas is the next stop for blue chip senior Wil Spencer, who has verbally committed to Texas A&M University.
For Spencer, the Tennis Recruiting Network's second-ranked player in the class of 2008, the choice was between
Florida and Texas A&M. After taking official visits to both schools, he decided in favor of the Aggies.
"I really liked the whole package. I like their setup a lot," says Spencer, who turned 18 last month. "I like the academic side, the support they have there, the tutors. And I love Steve (Denton, head coach) and Bob (McKinley, assistant coach). I get along with the players; I really like those guys, we just jelled."
Like fellow Floridian and blue chipper Austin Krajicek, who also verbally committed to A&M recently, Spencer is planning to enroll in January, and is hoping his college tennis experience will prepare him for the professional ranks.
