Player Advice
Two Simple Tips to Improve Your Game
Share:

As a coach I am asked all kinds of questions about the game of tennis. People want to know how to fix anything from their strokes to their anticipation to their movement - and, just about everything in between. Having worked with thousands of players over the last 52 years of coaching, I can say without hesitation that no two players are alike. Here are answers to two questions that I am often asked that can help you fix your game!

Question #1: It seems like every time I blow a big point or a call doesn't go my way, I lose focus. What can I do?

Coaches fine tune a player's technique and skills, but the one area that remains "untouchable" is a player's coping skills in the heat of battle. If I could figure out how to strengthen player's ability to handle adversity, I'd not only be the most popular coach on the circuit... but, imagine what teachers, parents, employers, spouses would pay for me to work with all the easily frustrated people in their world!

So many students have no idea what they actually do or how they react after they blow a big point. At the Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy we utilize video-replay sessions where the coach will either video the student themselves, or use the permanent cameras that are in place. It has been my experience a lot of players are surprised and the majority of them find it very productive to actually see their reactions on replay.
