When Kim Anicete started thinking about college, it really came down to two things. She needed someplace close to home and a school that would get her ready for medical school.
She has easily found both and will enroll this fall to play for coach Elizabeth Schmidt and the
Rice Owls.
"I am very family oriented,' said Anicete on her choice of sticking close to home. "Even when I go to play tournaments on the weekend, I always just want to come back home. I like the idea that I can just come home whenever I want."
The Rice campus is less than an hour away from her home in Spring, a suburb of northwest Houston, so her parents, Maria and Ramon, as well as her younger brother, Kenneth will never be to far away.
"My coach at the Houston Tennis Academy, Ivan Ivanov, recommended Rice to me," she added. "His sister had played there and really enjoyed it. The coaches at Rice and the tennis team were very welcoming and made me feel comfortable. I also felt that I could improve my tennis game at Rice."
Rice's strong academic reputation also didn't hurt either.
"Rice is known for its academics and a degree from Rice is excellent on a resume," adds Anicete. "My goal is to become a doctor and with Rice I think I can achieve that."
