MENTAL TOUGHNESS TRAINING:
Evan has spent several years training with the mental toughness program developed by Dr. Jorge Valverde. Dr. Valverde's program is well respected and has been leveraged over the years by many of the nation's top juniors. This program was expensive and required considerable dedication by Evan, as the early stages took almost a full year to master. As an example, Evan spent the initial 6 months of the program listening to recordings every night of the week. These recordings, which were varied, and built in stages, covered many aspects of mental conditioning and preparation. Evan began this program when he was age 13, and continues to utilize and refine his use of Dr. Valverde's on-court routines and techniques. Evan is well known to be very professional in his demeanor while playing tournament matches. He rarely gets rattled, and always stays positive. In contrast, many of his opponents, even at National and Sectional tournaments, play with emotional outbursts and inconsistent demeanor.
TENNIS CAMPS
In 2008 Evan was awarded a Summer Camp Scholarship by USTA Southern where he attended the University of Georgia tennis camp headed by Manny Diaz.
Over the years Evan has attended many tennis camps during the summer. Some years he focused solely on clay court training to develop point strategy and movement skills.
ACADEMY
Evan has attended the Windward Tennis Academy in Alpharetta, GA since 2008. He trains regularly with other blue chip, 5-star and 4-star players. The Windward Tennis Academy is headed by Torrey Hawkins, who is Evan's coach. In the past, Torrey Hawkins has coached many notable US juniors, including Donald Young (Pro), Brian Vahaly (Virginia) and Scoville Jenkins (Pro). Evan also trains with Coach Charles Byrd, who developed and trained Jarmere Jenkins (Virginia/top NCAA D1 player 2013).
