Individual Achievements
Dec. 11, 2006

PHILADELPHIA - Temple University senior Yuri Kurashima and freshman Radka Ferancova are ranked 14th in the ITA East Region final fall doubles rankings released on December 8. Kurashima, a 2006 First Team All-Atlantic 10 Conference selection, is ranked 24th individually, the highest ranking for an A-10 player.

"Yuri and Radka had a strong fall season and the ranking is a reflection of their hard work," said third-year Temple head coach Traci Green. "We are looking for good things from these two players, as well as the rest of our team, in the spring season."

Ferancova and Kurashima teamed for a 6-3 doubles mark in the fall campaign. The Owl duo advanced to the finals at both the Newport News Invitational and the ITA Regional Championships. The two are the second highest A-10 pair in the regional rankings and Ferancova, a native of Lucenec, Slovakia, is the only freshman to garner a regional ranking.

Kurashima, who compiled a 19-10 record in 2005-06, posted an 11-4 record in singles play in the fall. The Tokyo native won the consolation championship at the Cissie Leary Invitational on September 24. Ferancova was 7-1 in singles during the fall.
Coaching Achievements
Traci Green is in her third season as head coach of the Temple women's tennis team. She has posted an overall record of 18-23, including a 13-12 mark in 2005-06, the progran's first winning season since 1999-00. In her first season, 2004-05, Green guided the Owls to a 5-12 record and a fourth-place finish at the Atlantic 10 Championships. She followed that with a 13-win campaign last season, leading the eigth-seeded Owls to a fifth-place showing at the conference tournament. The feat was even more remarkable as the team competed without two-time A-10 all-conference performer Ana Maslesa for most of the spring. Green, a member of the 1998 NCAA Champion University of Florida women's tennis team, knows all about winning programs and Temple. Green was ranked as high as top twenty in singles and top five in doubles in the NCAA/ITA ranking. She was a two-time team MVP at UF and the Philadelphia native is the daughter of Tina Sloan Green, who guided the Owls' women's lacrosse program from 1975 through 1992, winning two NCAA Championships (1984 and 1988) during that span. Besides her experience at Florida, she won a USTA Junior National Clay Court Championship (1992), several ITF tournaments and was a member of the USA National Team (1995-96). A USTA teaching professional and USA Tennis High Performance Certified Coach, Green earned her bachelor's degree in communications from the University of Florida in 2000 and holds a master's degree in sport and recreation administration from Temple University (2004). She is also a member of the NCAA East Regional Advisory Committee. In addition to her tennis pursuits, she has worked for the School District of Philadelphia as the Direct Services Coordinator for the West Regional Office of GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs).
